The Forming of the Greatest Hearts.

Is there an age or year of your life you would re-live?

Two thousand and nine was an incredible year for me. A year that was filled with sentiment and success.

A year of success with the Tiger Cubs‘ Rugby. Although we failed to get our dearly wanted unbeaten season, we won all but One game as the Prince Edward School under 16.

In other disciplines we performed beyond what was expected of us. As the Top Swimming divisions‘ underdog, we contributed enough as an age group to remain in the division. Towards the end of the year, our Water-polo 1st Team compromised mainly of our age group, insuring the survival of the the dying sport at the school.

The previous year as under 15s‘ in the Basketball league, we went unbeaten so i decided to switch the sport for something else. I managed to fit in Hockey, Swimming and Full time Water-polo. Though at the beginning of the the year, all focus was dedicated to our athletic performance in the Track and Field events. The intense training led to an outstanding performance in the competition phase. By the end of the School term, our relay team clocked repeat records in the 100 meters, with 3 full color awards and 1 Half colors. My first full colors award. With a personal best time of 10.7 seconds on the sprint.

The discipline was elaborate… The Chemistry of the entire stream was at peak, leaving us to be the motivational inspiration for the rest of the school. The rest of the wonder was in the Housing Competitions, which was filled with epic competition in all disciplines including the Quiz, Debate, Shooting, Golf, Chess, Soccer, Rowing, Squash and Badminton competitions….

By the beginning of the third and final term, we had a great overlook into the year that followed. In site of the many First Team representatives we had in all key disciplines. We barely had an end of year break before diving back into pre-season training, as had become the custom.

With formal personal invitation to our Counter-gender school dances‘, we maintained representative relations with them. The Arundel Dance was Elegant, Beautiful, Stylish and well presented. The proceedings were fluid, and the hosts were immaculate. Events ran smoothly from arrival to departure. I must say Arundel out classed Chisipite.

The Chisipite Dance was initially expected to be the favorite of the year. They choose a less formal approach, the idea seemed to be to loosen the experience for the couples. The meal table was set up in buffet manner, as opposed to the catered approach chosen by the Arundel Ladies. And were Arundel hosted a Ceremonial Banquet, in praise of the years performance, Chisipite hosted a Hall Dance, in Ballroom spirit. The night allowed couples more privacy than initially expected.

Unfortunately, we were too young to call shots for Toasts, so we didn’t have clearance to host the ladies back. Eventually, after making admition into the Toastmasters society, i learnt why. Turned out Toastmasters hosted female schools twice every blue moon of the school year. An incredible standard for a Toasting Public School in Zimbabwe considering the majority of Toasting schools were Privately funded.

The next wave of leaders and athletes ascended with immense pressure from our steam of leaders and athletes, propagating the schools performance into an exceptional standard with tradition. It was a well organized year.

Goodbye 2009
